About EON Energy
EON UK are one of the ‘big six’ energy suppliers in the United Kingdom. They are the UK’s third-largest natural gas supplier, supplying gas to residential and business properties via monthly tariffs and prepayment meters. They offer both fixed-rate and variable tariffs across Europe, with an estimated 33 million customers in total. In the UK, EON employs around 9,400 people, with 16 operational onshore and 5 operational offshore wind farms. They also have around 5 Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants which they built themselves.
EON also offers associated products such as smart meters and In-Home Displays, which show how much electricity is being used and send meter readings to the company automatically. This avoids customers having to have their bills estimated, saving them money. In terms of their fuel mix, EON generates 32.4 per cent of their electricity from natural gas and 29 per cent from renewable sources. 18.7 per cent of their electricity is generated from coal, and 12.8 per cent is generated from nuclear power. This compares favourably to other utility companies in the United Kingdom. However, smaller independent suppliers trump EON as far as eco-friendliness is concerned with lower carbon emissions.
Here’s a graph showing EON’s fuel mix:

E.ON has also launched a smartphone app, which allows customers to track their energy usage, send meter readings and make payments using their smartphone. The app is easy to use and lets customers manage their Smart Pay As You Go account. It also lists 24-hour emergency contact numbers. The app is available for Android and Apple iOS devices.

E.ON also has a wide variety of sites providing cleaner energy sources. It currently has 21 operational wind farms in the UK; 16 onshore and five offshore. It is also a partner in the London Array, which is the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
In addition, the company owns two biomass plants, the UK’s first wave power generator, and a number of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants, which produce energy more efficiently than traditional power plants.
In January 2016, E.ON sold all of its North Sea oil and gas assets to London-based Premier Oil, for £83 million, following a strategic review of the business. In 2017, EON will continue to invest in renewable energy sources to improve their environmental impact.
